This morning I tried a new style of breakfast. Usually I have rice milk with kamut puffs or steel cut oats or even my rice milk with bran cereal (I limit that now because it isn’t that natural even though it is high in fibre). The other day I bought a package of muesli that looked user friendly. If you look at the kinds in the boxes, they are always loaded with sugar or high in fat or full of raisins (yech) dried banana chips (blech) and coconut (ewww!). Thankfully this package was different, it had oats, hazelnuts, pumpkin/sunflowers seeds and dates in it. Finally, a normal type of muesli that I could actually enjoy!!! I decided to fill it up with flax seeds as well to get a nice taste and it turned out to be pretty good. I must admit that the sunflower seeds come off much stronger than I had anticipated-they have a strong scent to them which sort of takes over the whole dish. I thought the hazelnuts would have but they were fine.
Overall, it didn’t take long to cook (5 mins or so) and with a dash of cinnammon, it was really tasty. I got to thinking that making my own muesli would probably be just as easy and perhaps cheaper! Next time I will try making some with oats, dried cranberries, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds and roasted almonds. Doesn’t that sound great?? The good thing about this muesli I got from the store is that it was all natural and had nothing in it other than the main ingredients. Plus, it kept me quite full for about 4 hours which is great!!
So why not try some of your own and see what happens??
