Trauma: Life in the Gym

No White Starches, No Tight Clothes

It has been about a month since I was on my latest detox with the Wild Rose program. Hard to believe how fast the time went by since then but thankfully it has gone by well. I wanted to document about my eating life since then because it is very typical that after this sort of torture-errr..detox, it is twice as easy going back to eating normal foods and doing whatever it was that you shouldn’t have been doing before the detox. Instead, I decided to challenge myself and continue trying to eat in that similar healthy manner. (There is more where this came from … )

Morning Muesli

Filed under: Lisa's Picks — Lisa at 9:17 pm on Monday, March 19, 2007

This morning I tried a new style of breakfast. Usually I have rice milk with kamut puffs or steel cut oats or even my rice milk with bran cereal (I limit that now because it isn’t that natural even though it is high in fibre). The other day I bought a package of muesli that looked user friendly. If you look at the kinds in the boxes, they are always loaded with sugar or high in fat or full of raisins (yech) dried banana chips (blech) and coconut (ewww!). Thankfully this package was different, it had oats, hazelnuts, pumpkin/sunflowers seeds and dates in it. Finally, a normal type of muesli that I could actually enjoy!!! I decided to fill it up with flax seeds as well to get a nice taste and it turned out to be pretty good. I must admit that the sunflower seeds come off much stronger than I had anticipated-they have a strong scent to them which sort of takes over the whole dish. I thought the hazelnuts would have but they were fine.

Overall, it didn’t take long to cook (5 mins or so) and with a dash of cinnammon, it was really tasty. I got to thinking that making my own muesli would probably be just as easy and perhaps cheaper! Next time I will try making some with oats, dried cranberries, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds and roasted almonds. Doesn’t that sound great?? The good thing about this muesli I got from the store is that it was all natural and had nothing in it other than the main ingredients. Plus, it kept me quite full for about 4 hours which is great!!

So why not try some of your own and see what happens?? ;)

One Year Anniversary

Can you believe that I am writing a blog entry about how I have been chocolate free…for ONE YEAR?? I know that I went off chocolate last year in March because I was lying to my students and telling them that I gave up chocolate for lent. lol It is so odd that I was able to just stop eating it but I am glad that I did. Ironically, I have not had a physical craving for it since last year sometime nor have I given in. Mind you, when I walk by a Purdy’s, I still wish I was eating chocolate so I could inhale those chocolate caramels faster than you can say, How much?? lol (There is more where this came from … )

Day 12-the LAST day!!!

Filed under: My Detox-Round 3 — Lisa at 11:12 pm on Saturday, March 3, 2007

So it is the final day and YAY!! I can’t say that this detox has been hard on me this round because I have really enjoyed my food-the one thing I don’t like doing on this detox is taking the 7 herb supplements twice a day-they are so natural and nasty tasting when you get them in your mouth. Some detox’s have me actually get nauseated from them even though you swallow them. (There is more where this came from … )

Day 11

Another round, almost done!! I had my usual Steel Cut Oats this morning but decided to try them out with diced apples and a hint of cinnamon-well they didn’t turn out too bad at all to be honest-except the apples were still hard and crunchy, but the idea of having cinnamon in there isn’t so bad at all!!! Day 10

Filed under: My Detox-Round 3 — Lisa at 11:23 pm on Thursday, March 1, 2007

Wow, hard to believe that I am on day 10 already!!! Yay!! I decided to do a weigh in this morning to see how my weight has been doing as it has been a handful of days since I stepped on the scale. I tried it out and rang in at 127 pounds. Lol, that means only 1 pound lost since about 4 days ago! Oh well. I then decided to try again and take off my clothes entirely and move the scale and a flatter surface and I came up at 126.5!! YAY! I like seeing that number since I haven’t seen that number for many years!! Like I say, it isn’t all about losing weight, but what a benefit to know I am cleansing myself and getting a bit small by the numbers! (There is more where this came from … )
